The Basics

Original Medicare has gaps. It doesn't cover everything. That's why most people get additional private insurance. You basically have two paths: Supplement or Advantage.

Annual Enrollment

From Oct 15 - Dec 7 every year, you can change your plan. We review your medications annually to ensure you are still on the most cost-effective prescription drug plan.

The Two Main Paths

1. Medigap (Supplement)

  • Higher monthly premium.
  • Zero or very low copays for medical care.
  • See ANY doctor in the USA who accepts Medicare.
  • No referrals needed.
  • Best for: People who value flexibility and want predictable medical costs.

2. Medicare Advantage (Part C)

  • $0 or low monthly premium.
  • Pay copays as you go for services.
  • Network of doctors (HMO/PPO).
  • Often includes Dental, Vision, and Gym memberships.
  • Best for: Healthy budgets who like extra perks.

Medicare FAQs

Part D is prescription drug coverage. Even if you don't take any meds, you should get a Part D plan when you are eligible, otherwise you will face a lifetime "Late Enrollment Penalty" if you join later.

Generally, NO. Medicare only covers short-term rehab (up to 100 days). For long-term custodial care, you either pay out of pocket or need Long-Term Care Insurance.
